Improve your Online Marketing Strategies by Mastering this simple FIRST step!

The internet has almost revolutionized the way in which we do business, it has enabled businesses both large and small to reach new target audiences, creating new and exciting revenue streams. Competition on the internet is fierce and the desire to keep one step ahead of your competitors has created a new multi million pound online marketing industry.

Whether you already have an online presence or are looking to bring your company or business to the internet then how to market your website will be on your mind! You may well have started to look at the marketing options, Pay Per Click, Banner Advertising, Email Marketing, Blogs, Newsletters, Social Networking, RSS Feeds and the list goes on...

Online marketing is simply a mine field, full of companies offering all types of solutions, packages, incentives and offers!

Ok so where do you start? Believe it or not you start at the beginning and look at the single most important factor of marketing your online business and that is TIME! Most importantly your time! Have you ever sat down at your computer after your evening meal with a cup of coffee, said to your partner "I won't be long I just have a couple of things to do on the computer" the next time you look at the clock it is ten past two in the morning and you have to get up for work in a couple of hours! (sound familiar?) I can honestly say that I have lost count of the number of times that this has happened to me, I can even remember a time when I had practically worked through the whole night without even realizing it. However that wasn't the most worrying thing, what started to worry me more was that when I returned to my project the following evening I noticed that I had made little or no progress at all.

This really began to play on my mind, so I started making notes on my working behavior and found that whilst I would start off with good intentions, I found that I might search for help on say setting up an auto responder, read some posts on a forum or two, then something would catch my eye like 'how to get a million people to read your blog in just 1 hour" the next thing I know a couple of hours have passed by and yet again basically I achieved nothing. Apart from signing up to yet another online Guru's newsletter, who would then email me at least 5 times a day! I'm sure you get the picture!

What I did next really changed the way in which I worked and my online business really began to grow and I can honestly say that I still use the same technique today! I am sorry to say that there is no magic involved in the solution, it is just simple and very effective - see below Online Time Management

1: Firstly set the amount of time you want to spend on the computer - Example 3 Hours

2: Set an alarm to go off in 3 hours time - I use ical on the mac it works really well

3: List your objectives - example check emails, post a blog, change picture on website

4: Using text edit on the Mac or note pad on the PC, every time you come across something that you feel maybe of interest copy and paste the URL into text edit or note pad page and save it for you to return to at a later date.

5: When the alarm goes off stop work and finish.

These simple 5 points may well seem a little too obvious, however getting into this routine is not as easy as you think, that said once you have mastered this technique, you will find that you are at least 5 times more productive and you will complete tasks effectively and in order, rather than having half a dozen unfinished projects on the go!!!
